Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is the tour season?
A. Tours run from early April through late November.

Q. What times do the tours operate?
A. We offer one full-day tour daily departing from each location.  Tours run approximately 6.5 hours from suburban hotels and 5.5 hours from Boston locations.

Q. Why 6.5 hours?
A. We realize the other tour companies offer much shorter tours, however they drive by everything and don't show nearly as many sights as Boston Tours.  We want you to get out of the bus as much as possible and make various stops throughout the city to walk around and take pictures. We also want to give you time for lunch and shopping at Faneuil Hall Marketplace. The time also includes travel to and from our suburban hotel stops.

Q. What kind of bus will we travel on?
A. A small coach, not a large motor coach –
We don’t use those larger impersonal motor-coach buses or themed busses that our competitors use.  Ride in the climate controlled comfort of our Boston Tours mini-coaches which are not subject to the rain, heat, cold, and wind like the Trolley hop tours do. Thus we offer a more comfortable Boston sightseeing bus tour.

Q. How many people can a bus carry?
A. Up to 22 adults in each bus. However, tours seldom have more than 18 people. Unlike other tour companies, we keep our groups smaller and manageable so we can have more interaction with our tour passengers, and so that our customers can have the opportunity to interact with each other.  The smaller bus creates a more relaxed, informal, and friendly environment for sightseeing in Boston. You will meet new people from all over the world.  Our customers relate to each other so well that we've even had strangers take pictures with one another at the end of the tour.

Q. Are eating and drinking permitted?
A. Food is allowed on the bus.  Feel free to share it with your guide!

Q. Are your tours appropriate for children?

A. Our tours are fun for the entire family!  The guides are fun and entertaining, and really make everyone feel comfortable!  From the stories of Paul Revere and his "Midnight Ride", to the Great Molasses Flood, everyone will find their tour to be an enjoyable and relaxing experience!

Q. Are you accessible by Public Transportation (T) ?
A. Yes,  Our reservation staff can direct you to the nearest public transportation stop.

Q. Where do I park if I am not staying at the hotel at which you pick me up?
A. As a courtesy to our guests hotels allow you to park in their lots.

Q. Cancellation Policy
A. If you need to cancel a reservation a courtesy telephone call is requested at least one hour prior to your pick-up time.  Our busses only arrive at locations where we have reservations.

Q. What happens if it rains?
A. We get wet.  The busses run rain or shine and there is some outdoor walking required.

Q. Can I take a tour without a reservation?
A. Reservations are your guarantee that your bus will arrive for you.  We only pick up at locations where reservations are made in advance.

Q. What happens when I am late?
A. A telephone call would be appreciated alerting us that you are on you are on your way.  Our tours must maintain their schedule. (Please, please, please be on time, or 5-10 minutes early!)

Q. Is there a lot of walking on your tours?

A. Our journey involves some walking including a hill on a concrete sidewalk to visit the Old North Church.  The optional visit to the USS Constitution may involve some steep stairs.  The rest of the tour features relatively short distances with little or no stairs.  There are plenty of benches during the tour, so if someone in your party doesn't want to participate in everything, they don't have to.   If you have any concerns, please give our office a call!

Q. Are there any extra fees not included in the tour price?

A. No, there are no additional admission fees to any site we visit.

Gratuities
